Lead qualification at the booth: a 30-second framework
Not every visitor is a buyer. A quick, polite qualification framework that protects booth time and raises follow-up quality.
Booth time is the scarcest resource at a fair. Every minute with a tourist is a minute a buyer walks past. Qualification is not rude — it is respect for both sides' time.
Open with three questions woven into conversation: what brings you to the fair, what does your company do, what are you working on right now. Role, fit, and timing usually surface on their own.
Score on the spot with a simple scale — excellent, strong, moderate, low. Do not overthink it; a gut score recorded beats a perfect score forgotten.
For high fits, push for a micro-commitment at the booth: a calendar slot, a sample request, an intro to the decision-maker. A lead with a next step is worth five without one.
For moderate fits, capture and classify for nurture. They are not a no — they are a later. The fatal mistake is treating everyone as equal in the follow-up queue.
Review scores nightly during the fair. Patterns emerge fast — which markets, segments, and pitch angles produce the excellent leads — and you can adjust while the fair is still running.
